I found the answer with MMDC at UPJ, a major program in which I teach that blends my love of math, culture, literature, and computer science into a multidisciplinary melting pot that is nothing short of fascinating. I love nothing more than learning and creating new and valuable research alongside my students. With a background in physics from Shippensburg University, I fostered my love of literature at IUP, my alma mater, and successfully blended both during my PhD studies. I study everything from artificial intelligence (neural nets, algorithmic textual and image generation, and research tools) to distant reading (sentiment analysis, lexical count and complexity, pattern analysis, authorship, literary data science, and similarity studies) to cryptography to Python to video games to literature (specifically the Gothic, the ghost story, the monster movie, and the Romantic). In other words, I get passionate about what I do, and I love being on the cutting edge of tech and culture!

If you have an interesting idea for a digital humanities project, I'd love to hear about it! Together we can make a plan to develop something fascinating - after all, there's no success that makes me happier than seeing my students just as excited to work with our content as I am!

Education & Training

PhD, 2021, Indiana University of PennsylvaniaMA, 2015, Indiana University of PennsylvaniaBA, 2012, Indiana University of Pennsylvania

Representative Publications

Dystopian States of America (editor: Matthew B Hill.
