I discovered my desire for instructing in 2003, when I had the opportunity to manage, develop and instruct workshops for Pennsylvania’s Technology Literacy Initiative. In less than a year, these workshops were used to educate over 1,300 K-12 teachers. For the next sixteen years, I worked full-time in the IT field. Specifically, I specialize in enterprise architecture with a focus on infrastructure (compute, storage, & networking), business continuity, disaster recovery and information security.

My extensive field experience includes:

· Customer facing roles at innovative technology focused organizations; Microsoft and VMware

· Designing and globally advancing cloud (IaaS/PaaS) and server virtualization technologies at a fortune 500 global life sciences corporation; Bayer

· Leading cloud security operations for a $3.5 billion retail business; American Eagle Outfitters

· Non-profit IT experience; Pittsburgh Technology Council and Catalyst Connection

I have always enjoyed sharing this real-world experience in the classroom, so I have made it a priority to instruct at the collegiate level over the last ten years.

My goal is to set up my students for success post-graduation. Therefore, I ensure students not only have an opportunity to develop a strong theoretical foundation of the course material, but upon completion of a course, have developed a skillset which is valued within the information technology field / community. This valued skillset includes the ability to perform technical tasks, demonstrate critical thinking, and effectively collaborate with others to solve problems efficiently.

Courses I teach:

Hardware Operating Systems

Networking

Information Security

Advanced Information Security

Systems Administration

Graphic Design

If you are interested in learning more about computer information systems, contact me at sean.beck@pitt.edu.

Education & Training

MS - Systems Engineering - Regis University

BS - Information Science and Technology - Penn State University

AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate Level

VMware Certified Professional (VCP)

Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS)

Division

Business and Enterprise Division

Academic Programs

Information Systems
Fri, 17 Jan 2020 20:42:27 +0000 Anonymous 1668 at Information Systems Faculty /academics/majors-programs/business-and-enterprise/information-systems/information-systems-faculty Thu, 02 Jan 2020 19:39:25 +0000 KRP97 1630 at Travis Stouffer /people/travis-stouffer

View Information Systems Major

Mr. Stouffer began teaching at Pitt-Johnstown in 2013. He's brought many technical upgrades and interdisciplinary curriculum changes into the IS program, to go along with his hands-on learning style in the classroom. Stemming from his applied work experience in the software development world, he puts students into real-life simulations where students have to work through fuzzy, complex scenarios to make things known and deliver a solution that you just can't do a Google search on. He has taught courses in the program such as: Intro to Information Systems, Systems Analysis & Design, Project Management, Web Development, Mobile Apps, Graphic Design, Hardware/Operating Systems and has helped guide development of the other IS courses.

During his time in the software industry, he has filled roles such as: Software Engineer, Project Manager, Scrum Master, Director of Design/QA and has been part of Leadership teams. He's led design, software engineering, and quality assurance teams during his time in practice. Throughout his teaching years at Pitt-Johnstown, he's maintained his currency in the technical space by continuing to fulfill these roles as a consultant. He's currently consulting as a Project Manager at Sourceree.

Education & Training

BS Computer Science, Minor in Mathematics - ÈÕ±¾Ò»¼¶Æ¬ Johnstown (2004)

Master of Science in Engineering Management - Robert Morris University (2009)

Division

Business and Enterprise Division

Academic Programs

Information Systems
Tue, 21 May 2019 20:49:53 +0000 Anonymous 1444 at
